Everyone would like to succeed in life. Success can be expressed at different levels. You can have success in the job and private life, and you set individual goals. We’ll tell you what makes you successful.
What success is
Those who succeed have achieved their goals. The objective is, therefore, inevitable to succeed. These goals vary from person to person. Everybody sets different purposes so that everyone can be successful in their way. In professional life, success means, for example:
- Financial security
- fun at work
- Good work-life balance
- Meaningful activity
Everyone probably puts his focus on another factor. For some, financial security is essential, others want to have enough free time aside from work. If this factor is reached, one can speak of success.
However, a real sense of achievement only exists if you do not choose too easy goals. When the goal is a healthy work-life balance, and part-time work is required, the sense of accomplishment usually lapses. A person only feels successful when he achieves his purpose through his performance. The benefit receipt is, therefore, crucial to feel pride. Also, one should be able to believe in reaching the goal too. With a high goal setting, success feels even stronger.
Therefore, one admires above all the persons who have come a long way in business and have gained a lot of reputation and prosperity with their work. These people are successful because they have created something great with innovative and extraordinary ideas. They are often envied by the public for their success. Although success is always defined individually, people with a successful career are called successful. However, one should not lose sight of the fact that success does not necessarily mean happiness and satisfaction.
Failure: the fear of failure
Many people are unsuccessful because they are afraid of failure. They say from the beginning that they can not achieve and achieve something. By doing so, they deny themselves the opportunity to gain new experiences and learn from their mistakes. They lack the necessary self-confidence to progress in life. However, failure is inevitable on the way to success.
Successful personalities such as Apple founder Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, and Thomas Alva Edison, who invented the light bulb, had to fail countless times before they were successful. Edison even announced that he tested 6,000 different materials before his light bulb finally worked. Walt Disney was also fired for lack of creativity. Even if success comes first, failure can still follow, as was the case, for example, with Steve Jobs, who failed with his Next Computer company after he was already listed with Apple. Failure and success go hand in hand.
This is how you succeed
Every human being can be successful. Often success is not as impossible as one might initially believe. The potential for success lies dormant in everyone. What you have to bring, however, is the willingness to work on yourself. Success does not fly you. You have to take the right path and not lose sight of the goal.
If you want to be successful, you have to believe in yourself and your abilities. Therefore, you should first of all, free yourself from your self-doubts. Do not be persuaded that you can not do anything. Do not listen to doubters, but focus on the people who support you. So you should also deal with your inner doubts. Work on your mental strength. Successful people are not necessarily gifted above average. They have a lot of self-confidence and no fear of failure.
Doubt has more impact on your success than you might initially think. If you doubt it, the probability of failure is proven to be much higher than if you trust your abilities. If you believe in yourself and empower yourself in your skills, you can achieve much more. Try to be optimistic and free yourself from negative thinking.
To work on your self-confidence, assertions are particularly suitable. Affirmations are self-affirming statements that you can use to influence yourself. By reiterating your goals in a way that sounds like you’ve already reached your goal, you’re making your goal more real and more tangible. You get a more positive attitude. Affirmations work best when you repeat them daily. Pick a few sentences that best suit your situation and remind you regularly. Examples are:
- I have the resources and skills to succeed.
- Every day I come closer to success.
- I deserve to succeed.
- Everything I start can be a success.
Set the right goals
To be successful, of course, the objective is essential. To set the right goals, you should first become aware of your values. Ask yourself the following questions:
- What is important to you in life?
- When are you satisfied with you and your life?
- What would you like to have more in life for?
If you have come up with some values, you can now try sorting them by importance. As you begin to aim, you start with the necessary amount. Which goal defines this value? What do you want to achieve? You should make sure that you do not set your goal too high or too low. After all, you want to have a sense of achievement.
Leave the comfort zone
You should be aware that you must leave your comfort zone to succeed. To achieve a goal, you have to work hard and in many cases, make worn paths. This is not pleasant but essential if you want to be successful. Presumably, you often encounter headwinds and have to defend your ideas and goals and protect them from doubters. This can be exhausting and cost a lot of energy. Successful, however, is only one who can not be beaten.
This requires a great deal of self-discipline. Self-discipline is probably the key to success, because only those who are persistent and consistent in the matter, can be successful. You should be prepared to work every day to achieve your goal and not be deterred by setbacks and challenges. Self-discipline means overcoming obstacles and not giving up, no matter how much strength it costs you. Even if you fail, you should get up again and not be discouraged. There are many different ways to reach your goal.
It does not always have to be the one way to success. You can reach your goal in many different ways. You should always have a plan B ready. So you still have an alternative solution that you can use in an emergency. You have to expect to fail and think early about possible alternatives. If you’re stiffened to a single option, you may overlook opportunities that are opening up on your path. Be open to alternative strategies and think in several directions. Sometimes your plan B fails, and you have to think about other solutions to reach your goal. You should never lose heart to work on your success.
Creating the right environment
To be successful, it is essential to create the right environment and surround yourself with the right people. “You’re the average of the five people you spend most of your time with,” said American motivational speaker Jim Rohn once. In many cases, there are people in the circle of friends and acquaintances who do you no good and may even take advantage of you. You should separate yourself from such people because negative influences will never get you anywhere. Instead, look for role models and idols of whom you might learn something else. Appreciate the people in your life who support you and are there for you. After all, you want to be influenced by the right people. Be active and try to meet new people. Contacts often open doors for you to succeed.
Love what you do
Working hard for success is the most fun when you love what you do. It is worthwhile to find out what you are burning for.
- What are your interests?
- Where are your strengths?
- Do you have a unique talent?
If you can bring your interests, strengths, and talents into your work, you’re more energetic and productive. You probably have more small success stories on the road to the great success that will further spur you on. If an activity excites and perhaps even makes you happy, you are willing to spend more energy and work hard. So you’re more likely to succeed.
With luck to success
Talent and self-discipline are not necessarily the deciding factors when it comes to success. Many successful personalities were lucky before they became successful. Researchers from the University of Catania investigated this phenomenon. In a computer simulation, they examined the influence of luck and talent on success in life. The researchers found that success in the same ability is often unfairly distributed.
Although humans started from the same level of success in the simulation, individual success was very different in the end. That’s because these people were regularly confronted with happy and unlucky events. The distribution of talent, the researchers tried to set realistic standards. The people who eventually had the greatest success were usually rather talented on average. So many happy coincidences seem to be more conducive to success than talent.
